Pinarello Unveils Lighter, More Aerodynamic Dogma F Ahead of Olympic and Tour de France Seasons

In the build-up to the 2024 Olympics and the Tour de France, the market is buzzing with new road products fitting the high-stakes dual events in France. Pinarello steps into the spotlight today, unveiling the updated Dogma F, solidifying its reputation as a versatile race bike.

Pinarello emphasizes the consistency of the Dogma through its 22-year legacy, serving as the primary choice for Pinarello teams across diverse terrains, from flat stages to rigorous climbs and cobbled classics. This trend mirrors a growing strategy among bike brands, focusing on versatility to eliminate the hassle of selecting different bikes for varying stages. Riders can confidently mount their race bike and tackle any course ahead.

Pinarello has released a significant update on the new Dogma F, emphasizing that while the bike is lighter, the main focus remains on aerodynamics and rolling resistance. The company reveals that enhancing the coefficient of aerodynamic drag (CdA) by a mere 0.2% equates to a weight saving of 175 grams. This insight stems from meticulous analysis of Geraint Thomas’ performance data from the 2022 Tour de France, where Pinarello’s research validated the impact of aerodynamic improvements on energy output and overall efficiency.

The result is a new, still asymmetric Dogma F frame where Pinarello has redesigned nearly every detail to achieve marginal gains. The company claims to have met their 0.2% CdA improvement target through updated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and extensive wind tunnel testing.

The key aero enhancements include a reduced-thickness downtube that seamlessly flows into a narrower head tube, retaining the distinctive ‘nose’ first seen on the Dogma F8 in 2014. However, this nose profile has been further refined, with decreased volume and width, enabled by an all-new proprietary headset design.

This innovative steerer configuration creates more space in front, allowing the cables to be routed through the center, contributing to the overall width reduction. Pinarello claims this new steerer design also enhances compliance in the fore/aft direction while maintaining lateral stiffness for precise handling.

Pinarello has also turned its attention to the bottom bracket area, introducing the new “Aero-Keel” design. This bottom bracket has been rotated by 3.5 degrees, creating a keel-like shape that Pinarello claims improves aerodynamic performance in this region by 1.2%.

But the benefits of this redesign extend beyond just aerodynamics. The new bottom bracket shape has allowed Pinarello to increase tire clearance, with the frame now comfortably accommodating 700c x 30mm tires. This tire size was specifically requested by the team for their cobbled classics campaigns, and Pinarello has delivered.

Pinarello’s aero refinements extend beyond the frame, with updates to the thru-axles as well. The new, shorter axles and integrated carbon nuts create smooth, uninterrupted surfaces on the fork exterior. A similar approach has been applied to the rear, with the derailleur hanger seamlessly integrated into the frame, eliminating the need for a traditional UDH.

Further enhancements include a slimmer Onda fork featuring the oval steerer, now with a 47mm rake. Pinarello claims this geometry tweak improves both handling and high-speed descending performance, with the 47mm rake applied across all frame sizes.

The seatpost clamp has also been redesigned, becoming fully integrated into the seat tube. This not only provides a cleaner aesthetic but also better protects the clamp from the elements, shielding it from dust and sweat.

Pinarello has also unveiled a new Talon Fast integrated cockpit for the Dogma F, featuring a 7-degree flare in the drops and a 4 or 7-degree inward bend, depending on frame size. This bar design is claimed to be more aerodynamic while also promoting a more natural riding position.

In addition to the aerodynamic improvements, Pinarello has managed to reduce the frame weight by 108 grams compared to the previous model. Complete builds of the Dogma F now range from 6.63 to 6.88 kilograms (14.62 to 15.17 pounds) for a 53cm size, sans pedals and bottles, depending on the selected components. This weight reduction is achieved through the use of a new M40X carbon fiber from Torayca, which also contributes to an overall stiffer frame.

Customers will be able to choose from Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, the latest SRAM RED AXS, or Campagnolo Super Record Wireless for their complete bike builds. The Dogma F will be available in 11 frame sizes, from 43 to 62 centimeters. Pinarello will offer six stock paint schemes, including three with their new Luxter finish that changes color depending on the viewing angle. Complete bike pricing starts at $14,500 and framsets with fork and seat post start at $6,950.
